If You Believe You Can, Then You Can

What is it that you want to accomplish? What have you been thinking about doing, but haven’t started yet?

Each day comes with it’s own responsibilities and commitments. We often get so caught up in everything that we forget to make time for ourselves. It is important that we make time in our busy schedules to get away and have some time to ourselves. There we can think about our priorities, and make sure that we are where we need to be, to get where we want to go.

It’s crucial to take the time to set goals and come up with a plan to accomplish those goals and fully carry them out. Each one of us has roadblocks that stand in our way, everything from insecurity and fear of failure, to plans that fall through. It can set you back and leave you feeling discouraged. We just have to get back up, dust ourselves off and go back after our dreams. If we think strategically, we can find a way to get past the roadblocks and move forward confidently.

More than anything else, it’s all in our heads. We don’t do, because we don’t think we can. We have fears and insecurities that we will fail and make a fool out of ourselves. We are afraid to try because we don’t want to get hurt. But even the richest person in the world, Bill Gates, is one of the many that failed before he succeeded. His first business,Traf-O-Data failed. His response?

“Even though Traf-O-Data wasn’t a roaring success, it was seminal in preparing us to make Microsoft’s first product a couple of years later.”

He let his failure, fuel his future. He saw where he went wrong and learned from it, and moved forward in accomplishing his goals. And today, because of his determination and commitment, he is one of the most successful people in the world.

It is truly amazing what we can do when we decide that we are going to commit to something and not back down. If we stick with something, we will get somewhere. It’s just a matter of time. You have to make the decision for yourself that you will do it. That you can do it. And commit to believing in yourself to make what you thought was impossible, possible.

Personally, I have been taking my fitness more seriously and trying to get in shape. I have been going to the gym for a few years now but because of my diet, I didn’t see the results I wanted to see. So I took on a challenge for a few weeks to work out consistently and not eat sweets. I had doubts in my mind that it would be too hard to go that long without something sweet because if anything is a weakness for me, it’s sweets! But one week went by and I began to believe I really could do it, although I still faced some challenges. I would have cravings and I would eat several small meals a day to keep from wanting things I shouldn’t have.

After two weeks, I not only saw a change in my body, but in my mind as well. I realized that I had been putting limits on myself and I had doubts because I never fully committed. I learned to have more confidence in myself and what I can accomplish.

It’s up to you, what you do. You have the power to accomplish your goals and dreams. No one else can make that decision for you. You just have to believe and when you do, you will succeed.
