Ornaments display our memories, represent the things that we love, and make our Christmas trees complete. Ornaments are all shapes and sizes but the ones that we make ourselves have a special place in our hearts.
Out of all the Christmas projects I have tried, this is one of my favorites. Everything you need to make it is already in your house, and it will last for years to come.
What you’ll need:
1 Sheet of 12×12 cardstock scrapbook paper
4 Sheets 4.5 x 6.5 cardstock paper
Or 4 greeting cards
Glue
Ruler
Pencil
Anything you’d like to use to decorate your ornament: ribbon, miniature bells, miniature mirrors, tassel, etc.
Steps:
-
- Find an object that 2 inches or less in diameter for a regular sized ornament to use as a guide. (I used a candle holder) Begin to trace circles with your object on the backside of your paper. You will need to make 20 circles.
- Cut out your circles from the paper. Take a circle and flip it over to the backside. With a ruler, draw a triangle inside of the circle. Fold up all 3 edges of the paper using the triangle as a guide. Continue to fold all 20 circles like this.
- Gather 5 circles to create the top of the ornament. Glue 1 flap of a circle to another until it forms a circle. Repeat this process for the bottom of the ornament with other 5 circles. Tip: Be sure to line up the edges of the paper very closely, it will create a better presentation.
- Next, create the middle ring by gluing 10 circles together in a triangle up, triangle down pattern. This will create a straight line. Glue together the ends to make a circle.
Pattern idea: Use the same color/design for the top of the ornament, a different color/design for the bottom, and a variation for the middle.
- Take the top of the ornament and glue the flaps to the middle ring. Repeat this process with the bottom.
- Now decorate your ornament and then you are done!
