A jute globe pendant light is a great addition to a reading nook, dining room, or craft space. The warm and relaxing glow of the Edison bulb has an eclectic look and will make any space feel cozy. Here are the steps to make one of your own!
What you’ll need:
- 1 Rubber punch balloon
- Plastic wrap
- Large bowl
- Sharpie
- 1 Roll of Jute twine
- Newspaper or plastic table cloth
- 8 oz Matte Mod Podge
- X-Acto knife
- Pendant light fixture with an Edison light bulb or string of lights
Steps
-
-
- Add as much air as you’d like to your rubber punch balloon, depending on how big or small you want the globe to be.
- Cover the whole balloon in plastic wrap and secure it loosely with the rubber band. Place the balloon on top of a large bowl to keep it in place. Draw a medium size circle around the rubber band. You will cut a hole around it later to add your bulb (or lights).
- Tie a knot with the twine around the rubber band and make a loop. Begin to wrap the twine around the entire balloon in a crisscross pattern.
-
- Spread out newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect your furniture. Cover the balloon with the Mod Podge, making sure there aren’t any dry areas. You can also submerge the balloon if you have a bowl that is large enough.
- Hang up the balloon and place a bowl underneath it to catch any drips. Allow to dry for about 24 hours.
- Once the globe has fully dried, you’ll need to pop the balloon. Next, cut a hole along the line that you drew near the rubber band and pull out the balloon and plastic wrap.
- Remove any leftover Mod Podge residue on the twine with an X-Acto knife.
- Insert your bulb or string of lights into the globe.
- Hang the globe and connect the fixture to your house wiring if needed.
